French Press Espresso #04:
Same Ritual, New Rules
Picked up two new beans from Charlotte-based roaster Pure Intentions—which, tbh, feels like a fitting name for the vibes of this whole project. I got their Daybreak breakfast blend and Black Moon espresso. Yes, the names are cinematic. Yes, I’m leaning into that.
Original Plan
Start next week drinking both:
☀️ Daybreak in the morning
🌑 Black Moon in the late afternoon
Same setup each time: same tools, same sweetener, same cinnamon swirl, same frothy half & half. The only variables? Bean and time of day.
I wanted to know:
Would the energy hit differently?
Would the darker roast at night mellow me out, or amp me up?
Can a routine change mood without a change in method?
But Here’s What Actually Happened
I can’t drink coffee twice a day. I tried. Chaos ensued.
Heavy cream is officially non-negotiable—and my 5-year-old co-COO now demands a small cup of frothed, maple- and cinnamon-laced cream each morning.
So now I’m shifting the experiment.
New Testing Focus
Squiggi’s updated brew lab includes:
✶ Does coffee still feel like a treat when it’s the same every day?
✶ Can a morning ritual create momentum even if the rest of the day stays chaotic?
✶ How does body > brain > mood respond to caffeine consistency?
✶ What happens when you remove the excitement of novelty… and commit to the boring magic instead?
{improbable.} Parallel
This little test? It’s not just about coffee.
I can feel it—{improbable.} is about to get very full, very fast.
The urge to run around and tweak everything, prep everything, and future-proof everything is strong. But I’m trying a new move: I’m sticking to my ritual. Even if the mood changes. Even if the rules do, too. One brew. Same time. Same swirl.
Let’s see if that’s enough to meet the moment.
