Light Roast, Heavy Choices

Today’s Brew:

Started with Veranda, Starbucks’ Blonde Roast. Light roasts are my jam—bright, buzzy, and full of potential. Also, slightly more caffeine. Downside? Higher acidity, which makes for a trickier espresso mimic.

Used the French press, stirred post-pour, skipped blooming (because I didn’t know that was a thing yet)—frothy half & half, a whisper of maple syrup, a dusting of cinnamon.

What Worked:

  • The frothy texture was shockingly decadent

  • Cinnamon + maple combo gave cozy clarity

Didn’t Work:

  • Coffee came out sour and thin

  • Acidity overwhelmed the cream

Tomorrow’s Move:

Bloom first. Try a slower steep. Perhaps blend the roast or add salt to balance the flavors?

{improbable.} Parallel:

This brew was like trying to lead with a raw idea—full of spark, but no grounding. It reminded me that even our strangest studio thoughts need structure to land. Bright doesn’t mean better unless there’s depth underneath.
